If your device is damaged, it is advisable to image the device and work on the image file for data recovery. If your data is not replaceable, do not attempt to write to the failed device if the following applications do not work but seek professional advice instead. The following software will passively try to recover your data from failed or failing hardware. Be certain that the "live" cd does not automatically mount any partition or swap space. Shut down the affected machine as soon as possible, and restart it from a LiveCD or LiveUSB.
